Project Originations
This model was a cumulative effort between ourselves and a friend. It was started in September 2012 and had its first flight 4 montsh later. The model is a 150% enlarged version of the WingsontheWeb.com 82" wingspan Ho-229. This models outline and airfoil is based of the Arthur Bentley Drawings, so the model is accurate for scale competition.
Our version includes and all composite Vacuum infused Composite center wing section that encloses the landing gear system, power plants and radio receiver equipment. This composite center section adds to the cost of the model, but at 5 1/2lbs of weight with all of the primary internal structure's pre-installed, it saves 10+ lbs of weight over a conventionally built and fiberglassed wood center section. The strength of this center wing section has to be seen to be believed as well! The outer wing panels consist of conventional balsa/ply construction techniques.
The prototype has flown successfully on a pair of 90mm JetFan 90v2 EDF units with HET 700-68-1200kv motors on 12s 5000 lipoly batteries per fan unit with an installed thrust of 24lbs combined. The model is well suited to twin turbine installations as well for advanced modelers (turbine installation, its components and fuel tanks will have to be designed/sourced by the builder, we are able to assit with this to some degree). Flight controls consist of Conventional elevons, flaps (two segments per wing pane) drag rudders (upper and lower wing surfaces) and nose wheel steering. A minimum of a 9 channel radio system is required for full functionality of the flight controls.
